History

The seeds of Middle-Earth were sown back in 1981 when Phil and Sue Hart began building their own mud brick home in Evandale Tasmania.

Through blood sweat and tears they toiled together. Today their house is still evolving as new techniques and materials are experimented with.

PHIL
Is the face of Middle-Earth Constructions. He feels lucky that he can go to work and do something that he enjoys so much.

Building, using these materials fulfils his artistic flair and imagination.

The clients have always responded well to his easy going nature and his flexibility to help them achieve their dreams.

While their children were growing up, Phil often travelled Tasmania creating a legacy of unique homes while Sue stayed home caring for them, as well as teaching part-time.

SUE
Is the pulse of Middle-Earth Constructions, taking on the responsibility of the more mundane duties, going into overdrive with the introduction of the G.S.T.

As the children flew the nest she joined Phil on site. In rain, hail and scorching sunshine she has scaled ladders to help Phil construct roofs, spent hours mixing mortar, pushing barrel loads of gravel, pouring mud and paving brick floors.

As little tots they used to help Mum soak the clay and then hop in the dam and mix the straw through the mud. When dad returned home from work it was ready and waiting for him to turn into bricks.

As the boys grew up they joined the team, making mud bricks and helping to render walls, learning many skills along the way.Toby is still an integral part of the business.

Over the past 27 years each member of the Hart family has had their part to play in the success of Middle-Earth Constructions of which they are very proud.
